Here Andrew explains WHY you need to learn this technique, and it's simple, club gear probably doesn't have beat sync. So if you can't do this manually, you're screwed.
No only that, but when songs are analysed by the software, it can and does get it wrong, especially on older 70's 80's 90's songs. 00's and 10's were mastered using computers and have dead accurate BPM's, older music doesn't. That...
If you've never used any hardware, how do you get to know what everything does? To be honest, it's easy, some things you'll use maybe once or twice per session, others you'll use all the time, but you will use everything fairly regularly.
But this is the video you need, and Crossfader will teach you the majority of controls so you can have a play and learn how to learn.
Crossfader have made a video tutorial that is almost complete, it certainly covers all the basics, some intermediate techniques and moves on to a couple of advanced tips and tricks.
It's worth an hour of your time.
So you thought Rekordbox was powerful already? Wait until you start midi-mapping.
Essentially you can change pretty much every function of your controller.
Chris M explains this step by step, even add stems to a controller that doesn't have it.
I know I know, it's something we all have to do, and doing it quickly only hurts you and your sets, rushing along and you'll make mistakes.
But what if you could do it really quickly and just as effectively?
So you have your tracks ordered properly right?
You might think so, but this one tiny hack/trick is awe inspiringly good and incredibly simple.
Create an empty silent track, use audicity or the like to do this.
Drop this empty track into a playlist and separate the tracks that work really well together with this empty track.
It'll look something like this.

Rekordbox has a really cool editing feature, it's slightly limited, it's free to use, though to save you have to pay a subscription. There are ways around that though ;)
If you're new to DJ'ing or wanting to start learning the mystical arts of being a DJ, then a good tutor is what you need.
You can always pay to learn, for that I can recommend Crossfader , but not everyone can afford to pay hundreds of £££'s to learn.
In that case you can still learn, and it's not hard, but someone like Chris M can really help you on your way.
Sure you might learn faster with...
By mixing a track, usually a really big banger, you can build energy just on anticipation alone. The idea is to take a small sample, one phrase or a few bars, mix in a distinctive sound or vocal over the playing track. Loop it and then cut it, drop it, or ignore it for a while.
Being a DJ isn't just how you mix one track into another, it's about timing, energy and feeling the crowd.
But before all that, there's the preparation.
Here Andrew takes you through the steps getting your set ready for a big night.
Memory cues seem to a throwback to the early days of digital DJ gear. Hence they're no irreplaceable as too much gear still requires it.
Hot cues are so good though.
I'm currently working on a 60 minute set. This is the first time I've ever played these tracks as a set, so the transitions are a bit messy and so is the song selection.
However, Satisfaction and French Kiss , though they sound awesome, do need to be swapped for something else.
This is the first time I've made a set to practice. This is the next hurdle and I really need to learn this. Up until...
How do you handle HUGE changes in BPM? Here Andrew talks about making the change from various low (90-130BPM) all the way up to 170+ BPM. It's easier than it sounds.
How to use loops to mix two or more tracks.
This is an incredibly important trick to use, especially for older house/club/dance/pop music, circa 80's 90's and early 00's.
This music just isn't built like modern DJ music, not even close. There is almost no intro or outro, and contains a lot of melodies and vocals, creating huge clashes in you mix, and it sounds horrible. So yeah, use 1 bar, 2...
